Rate Per Mile Calculator
A load that pays well per loaded mile can still lose money once you count the deadhead to get there. This calculator shows both numbers so you can compare loads honestly.
Enter the linehaul rate (plus any fuel surcharge or accessorials), the loaded miles, the deadhead miles to the pickup, your fuel price and MPG, and any other cost per mile from the cost per mile calculator. You get rate per loaded mile, rate per total mile, fuel cost, and estimated profit for the load.
Check any broker free (authority, BMC-84 bond, surety). If a load goes unpaid, get a ready-to-send demand letter and bond-claim packet: $9 with code LAUNCH10 through Oct 29 (then $19).
Frequently asked questions
What is a good rate per mile?
It depends on your own cost per mile. A rate is only good if it beats your break-even. Use the cost per mile calculator to find yours.
Should I count deadhead miles?
Yes. Deadhead burns fuel and time. The all-in rate per total mile shows what the load really pays for every mile you drive.
Does this include fuel surcharge?
Enter the total pay you will receive, including any fuel surcharge and accessorials, to see the true numbers.
What if the broker pays late or not at all?
A profitable load is worthless if it is never paid. Check the broker free before you book, and if a load goes unpaid, use the claim packet to demand payment and claim against the broker bond.
