Missed the 72-hour response window: what carriers can still do
Not legal advice. This is a document-preparation tool, not a law firm. Results aren't guaranteed. Verify all info with FMCSA and consult an attorney for legal questions.

If you found the report notice late, the response window may already be closed. That's frustrating, but it isn't the end of the road.

What happens when the window closes
According to Carrier Response, if you don't respond within 72 hours of submission, the report is released automatically with a note that you did not respond, and it is finalized and can't be changed. You can't add a response later. Sources: Carrier Response: Common Questions & Answers, Carrier411: FreightGuard.
What you can still do
- Ask the broker to delete it. The reporting company can still decide to delete a report. Send a factual deletion-request letter to the owner or operations manager with your documents. On Carrier411, a report deleted after the window leaves a record that it was deleted, which still reads better to most brokers than the original allegation.
- Keep your records together. When another broker asks about it, you'll want the POD, ELD logs, and messages ready to show.
- Be ready to explain it briefly. A calm, two-sentence explanation with documents goes further than an argument.
- Talk to an attorney if the report is false and causing real harm. We can't tell you whether you have a claim.
Don't miss the next one
Report notices go to the email on your FMCSA registration. If that address is old, update it through the FMCSA Portal or an MCS-150 update (FMCSA: Form MCS-150 and online updates, FMCSA: Updating Your Registration). Check that inbox daily.
Report Defense builds it from your facts, plus an evidence timeline and weak-spot check. $29, included with Pro.

FAQ
No. Carrier Response says you only have one opportunity to respond, within 72 hours of the report being submitted. After that the report is finalized.
You can still ask the company that submitted the report to delete it. If it is deleted after the window, a record that a report was deleted remains on Carrier411.
Keep the email on your FMCSA registration current, since report notices go there, and watch that inbox.
